D-Light Studios and Blow Photo have partnered with Artists Róisín White and Ali Waters to facilitate the In Our Own Image Youth Engagement Project.
‘‘Over the past 8 weeks, we have worked together to explore what it means to photograph our own community. We want to think about what home really means to us. Where do we feel at home? Who makes us feel at home? What do we love about this area that other people mightn’t know about? The photographs in this exhibition are here to let you into our homes, to see the people who are important to us, and to give you a glimpse of the North East Inner City through our eyes.’’
The series of workshops allowed young people to develop their photography skills using film and digital cameras, and to foster discussion and awareness about how and why we make images, and the importance of representation and intention.
The result of this 8 weeks project will be showcased alongside The Rise. This exhibition, curated by BLOW Photo and supported by the Photo Musem Ireland, features nine young photographers whose work indicates new directions in contemporary photography.
The aim of the Youth Engagement Project was to provide new skills, confidence and sense of achievement, but also to spark ongoing engagement between young artists and professional photographers in a mentorship capacity.
